Rider Story

Riding gave me freedom, confidence and belonging.

Born with cerebral palsy, Lauren began therapeutic riding as a child to help her brain learn to use her legs independently. The first time she sat on a horse, she experienced the feeling of having two separate legs—and, with the support of the saddle, she could sit upright on her own.

Riding quickly became more than therapy. It gave Lauren freedom, confidence, friendship, and a sense of belonging. It eventually led her to compete on Brown University’s NCAA Division I Equestrian Team and become its captain.

Today, Lauren coaches and advocates for greater accessibility and inclusion in equestrian sport. She understands firsthand that every rider’s body works differently and believes everyone deserves the opportunity to experience the partnership, independence, and joy that horses provide.

Her goal is to open doors and create more pathways into equestrian sport for riders of all abilities.
