Rider Story

Determination has no limits.

Sophia is a determined young 7-year-old para rider who has been riding since the age of three. At just one year old, she was diagnosed with Spinocerebellar Ataxia Type 5 (SCA5), a rare neurological condition that affects her balance, coordination, muscle control, and speech.

Today, Sophia uses a wheelchair, a walker, and her favourite mode of transportation — her horse, Cleo. Riding Cleo has become an important part of her journey, helping build strength, balance, confidence, and independence while complementing her ongoing therapies.

Sophia loves taking part in Western Games horse shows with Cleo, where she enjoys competing alongside her peers and proving that determination has no limits.

Despite the challenges she faces, Sophia continues to work tirelessly toward her goal of walking independently. Her courage, determination, and the special bond she shares with Cleo inspire everyone she meets.
